Description

Darmera peltata, formerly known as Peltiphyllum peltatum, is a robust perennial that provides strong structure, forming large round leaves with a lush appearance.

This tall perennial spreads slowly through its thick creeping rootstock just below the soil surface. Its large round leaves resembling shields are borne on long petioles and measure 30 to 60cm (12 to 24in) in diameter. They appear after flowering and display magnificent autumn colours before disappearing. The pink flowers are grouped in round umbels and are carried on tall, erect stems reaching up to 1m (3ft) in height.

Darmera peltata will thrive in a pond edge, marshy area, or moist flower bed in a cool, moist, even heavy and clayey soil that is rich in humus.
