Description
This hybrid of Pardanthopsis dichotoma with Belancanda chinensis takes the beginning and end of the names of its parents. This designation is contested and some botanists consider this genus to be a separate iris. That's why it's also found under the name Iris norisii.
This new selection was obtained recently by Daryl Probst, an American nurseryman who has long worked on the genus Epimedium and who now is interested in slightly less well-known genera. It forms an upright clump with a short rootstock, with wide lanceolate leaves like those of an iris. The sturdy spikes bear large star-shaped flowers in a rare colour for this genus: pure violet with a darker centre. This new variety also seems to be more floriferous than the species, as some have counted over 300 flowers per plant. Remarkable cut flowers for original bouquets.

Planting and care
This genus has thrived in our garden for over 20 years, in the same dry and well-drained soil as the garden iris. This variety is said to tolerate high temperatures very well. Any well-drained soil is suitable for it, and it is advisable to choose a slightly sheltered location in colder climates.
