I ordered 7 young plants (available on the website), calculated need for a bed of 7 plants (so!). Promesse de fleurs only delivered 6 to me, indicating that the 7th plant will be refunded to me later (nothing received to this day). So now I have a "gap" in my bed, thank you very much! Additionally, I find the plants too weak for the price, the package arrived in poor condition, deposited or thrown (I was not present) by the carrier over the gate. As a result, one plant was damaged. First and last order on this website.

Description

Agapanthus 'Northern Star' is a recent creation with deep blue umbels striped with sky blue, which impress with the depth and intensity of their colour. Each flower is illuminated by paler stripes on the inside of the petals. This deciduous and semi-hardy bulbous plant forms a beautiful compact clump, composed of a handful of dark green ribbon-like foliage from which tall stems bearing flowers from July to September arise. Original and truly beautiful, this surprising variety is ideal for decorating balconies, terraces, and flower beds, as well as summer bouquets. It should be grown in full sun in sheltered positions, in rich, well-drained, moist to dry soil.

Agapanthus 'Northern Star' is like a mysterious star of unfathomable blue. It belongs to the lily family. It is a true novelty. The plant develops from a short rhizome with fleshy roots. It forms a clump with a compact habit, with the foliage disappearing in autumn. When in bloom, it will not exceed 70 cm to 75 cm (27.6 in to 29.5 in) in height and 40 cm (15.7 in) in width. Its solid floral stems crowned with dense umbels, consisting of 20 to 50 flowers, appear in the heart of summer. This bulbous plant is hardy up to approximately -10° C (14° F), in well-drained soil and in a sheltered position.

Agapanthus 'Northern Star' is used in the background or at the back of flower beds, surrounded, for example, by grasses and low-growing perennials such as stipa, fescue, echinops, kniphofia, bamboo, phormium, cotton lavender, stachys, catmint, or gaura. It can be used to border pathways, with ground-covering plants at its base (cerastiums, artemisias, creeping euonymus, aubrietas). It will also work well in large pots on a terrace. Choose a wide pot that will allow this plant to produce numerous flower stems. This cultivation method has the advantage of being able to store it indoors during intense frosts. It thrives by the seaside, in an English cottage-style garden, and even in a contemporary-style urban garden. Cut and placed in a vase, the flowers will bring freshness and a lot of originality to the house.

Planting and care

Grow in full sun in a warm location, in a sheltered and south-facing position. Plant it in rich and moist but well-drained soil to optimise its hardiness. Water regularly during the growth period (twice a week) but not in winter. Mulch the base with a layer of dead leaves about 20 cm (7.9 in) thick, covered with a mesh to prevent wind damage. Snow also provides very good protection against excessive moisture and cold. In a pot, bring the plant indoors to protect it from severe frost, in an unheated room. When planting, place them 10 cm (3.9 in) deep in a mixture of leaf compost and compost. Once established in the ground, avoid disturbing the agapanthus. Remove faded leaves in autumn. Cut back the flower stems so that the plant does not exhaust itself by producing seeds.
