The new deciduous agapanthus from the Graphite series combine several qualities; hardy to -15°C, floriferous, these perennials bear umbels of 10-15 cm (4-6in), carried at 90 cm (35in) above the ground by dark grey stems, which earn them their name "graphite". The umbels of Graphite Blue are a very vibrant blue, while those of Graphite 'White' are off-white with a pink edge on the reverse. This very graphic plant can be grown in the ground in many regions, bringing a beautiful touch of exoticism to sunny flower beds as well as to flowering pots.

Planting and care

Plant Graphite agapanthus by covering them with at least 10 cm (4in) of good soil so that they can withstand the cold in most of our regions. It is essential to plant them in spring and mulch them in winter. For pot cultivation, use 5 young plants for a 24 cm (9in) pot, and shelter your pots in winter. They prefer a rich and moist but well-drained soil. They are hungry plants that appreciate compost and fertilizer. Water them regularly during the growth period (twice a week). However, avoid watering them afterwards. They dislike winter humidity, but require a moist soil to flower well in summer.
