Description

Perennial plant of poor soils, the Agastache rugosa 'Alabaster' produces fragrant mint foliage above which green spikes, turning pure white, create a marvel of simplicity with a wild appearance.

Perennial growing in dry prairies of America, the Agastache rugosa likes the sun and porous soils, even poor ones.

From June to September, the plant sends up beautiful green floral spikes in buds, blooming pure white. Reaching a height of 80cm (32in), the melliferous flowers attract a large number of bees and butterflies. The oval, dentate leaves of light green colour are strongly aromatic, they emit a minty fragrance when crushed.

Easy to grow, the Agastache rugosa 'Alabaster' is cultivated in a scree garden or in a wild-looking dry garden. In hot regions, it should not lack water at the beginning of flowering.

A carefree perennial, it structures the flower beds composed of stipas, echinaceas, gauras, achilleas and pennisetums.

Planting and care

In heavy soil, we dig a hole of 30 cm (12in) in all directions, pour pure sand into it and install the seedling without adding any soil. All the species and varieties offered are deciduous, and have excellent hardiness, allowing them to acclimatise in many regions. During very harsh winters, cover the stumps with straw or dead leaves.
