Plant arrived in a pot in good condition, repotted and shooting for a few weeks. Now we just have to wait for the flowering!

Description

Aquilegia canadensis Little Lanterns is a graceful perennial with a bushy habit, more compact than the species. From May to June, this Columbine produces impressive small pendulous flowers composed of yellow petals with a red spur pointing forward and protruding stamens, measuring 1 to 2 cm (1in) long.

The glaucous bluish-green foliage of this Columbine is deciduous and the leaves are divided into 3 leaflets, 1 to 2 cm (1in) long. The foliage and flowering make this an ornamental plant. At maturity, it can reach a height of 30 cm (12in). It has excellent hardiness and is native to North America.

The Little Lanterns Aquilegia attracts birds and butterflies. It is found in natural habitats in light woods, mountains, and meadows. It is suitable for rock gardens and borders, as well as perennial beds or borders.

Planting and care

Canadian Columbine enjoys sunny or semi-shaded locations. Plant it in rich, moist but well-drained, humus-bearing soil, even limestone. In heavy soil, it will not live long. It is a very hardy but short-lived plant. Nevertheless, it self-seeds spontaneously if you do not cut the stems once flowering is finished. Aquilegia canadensis Little Lanterns can be affected by caterpillars, leaf miners, and aphids. It can also be prone to powdery mildew and leaf rust.
