Out of the 3 ordered, only two have taken. They haven't grown and certainly haven't flowered. A bit disappointed.

Description

The Arabis ferdinandi coburgii 'Old Gold' is an excellent perennial for rock gardens. Its white flowers with four petals, carried by numerous peduncles, 10 cm (4in) tall, appear from April to June in small upright clusters, 3 to 8 cm (1 to 3in) long, above dark green leaves marginated with yellow. Its oblong leaves, more or less smooth and glossy, form a small cushion of evergreen rosettes.

Arabis is a plant with yellow variegation that is easy to grow. You can plant it in regular soil, but it grows best when planted near stones in well-drained soil and full sun. It works well as ground cover, in border plantings, on flowery pavements, as a topping for low walls, or on rocky slopes. You can pair it with other rock garden perennials such as small sedums, Iberis, mossy Phlox, or Aubrietas or use it to cover bulbs.

This species from mountainous regions in southeastern Europe has the same growth habit as Arabis caucasica, with smaller glossy leaves and a lower habit.

Planting and care

Arabis ferdinandi coburgii 'Old Gold' is a plant that grows best in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, which can even be sandy or rocky. To plant your young plant, create a cube-shaped hole of 20 cm (8in) by crumbling the soil and adding a base fertiliser at the bottom. Take the plant out of its pot, put it in the hole, and cover the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill the hole and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to help the roots establish. Prune the shrubs after flowering to keep the plant compact.
