My planter survived the heatwave of summer 2022 and the asters have multiplied. Buds are appearing, I am very pleased.

Description

Aster ageratoides Stardust is a hardy perennial plant forming a compact bush with an excellent appearance. The white-lilac flowering in small daisies spreads over almost three months, from August to October. Its matte-green foliage is resistant to powdery mildew. Strong, hardy, and not very demanding on soil quality, this aster with a slightly wild look will thrive in full sun. As such, it will find its place in all gardens.

Aster ageratoides Stardust is native to Korea. It belongs to the Asteraceae family. It forms a suckering stump with very regular upright, stiff, and tight stems, carrying deciduous, slightly rough, matte-green foliage. Quite early on in late summer, from August onwards, the flowers appear with very fine ligulate petals, in a pretty, white-lilac colour.

Plant Aster ageratoides Stardust in any type of soil; it even tolerates poor-quality soil such as backfill soil or compact and clayey soils. Plant it in a sunny position that will allow it to express its full potential. Its robust foliage seems very resistant to powdery mildew, even in hot weather. Its only requirement is not to compete with other perennials with a strong root system. Prune dry branches in late winter.

Still relatively unknown among amateur gardeners, this slightly wild aster deserves to be more widely used in gardens. It is perfect for accompanying other perennials, preferably in sunny borders.
