Planted a few days ago, still no sign of life. Received a small twig of 2/3 cm (1in) without any leaf, so it's hard to say, but it's mid-March, I will wait a little.

Description

Aster amellus 'Rosa Erfüllung' is an intermediate-sized variety. The pure pink flowers with yellow centres bloom from the beginning to the end of summer. They accompany summer blooming and await the colours of autumn. This perennial is smothered by its generous flowering. This aster tolerates poor and calcareous soil, as long as it remains moist.

Aster amellus belongs to the Asteraceae family. The horticultural variety 'Rosa Erfüllung' shows, starting from spring, an upright clump habit, with few branches. It will reach 50cm (20in) in height when flowering, and will spread over 45cm (18in), with a moderately fast growth rate. The particularly abundant flowering takes place from July to September. The 3cm (1in) diameter capitula are pure pink with a hint of lavender and the heart of the flowers displays a joyful yellow-orange colour. This aster is a deciduous perennial plant with slightly hairy stems. The basal leaves are slightly pubescent, generally lanceolate and green. This plant spreads through underground woody rhizomes.

It is impossible to imagine our homes without aster beds or borders. Not demanding, completely hardy, and easy to grow, they go well with all kinds of perennials. The relatively small size of Aster amellus allows you to incorporate them into the composition of flower pots. The Aster genus is extremely rich; it comes in a wide range of varied colours and sizes. By choosing different cultivars, it is possible to enjoy these pretty daisies with a countryside look from spring to the gates of winter.

Planting and care

Plant Aster amellus 'Rosa Erfüllung' in autumn or spring in loose, moist but well-drained soil, even limestone. It appreciates a sunny exposure but tolerates partial shade where it will have a slightly looser habit, with stems tending to bend. Preferably choose a location sheltered from strong winds. Once established, avoid moving it as it does not appreciate changes. In borders, maintain a spacing of at least 50cm (20in) between plants. Water in case of heatwave and consider mulching your perennial borders in June to maintain the natural soil moisture to the maximum. Aster amellus are relatively resistant to powdery mildew. Stems can be pinched out in the heart of summer to promote flowering. Cut back dried stems in autumn or at the end of winter. Divide clumps every three or four years to ensure they remain floriferous. Do not replant the divisions in the same location. This aster is not invasive.
