Description

One of the oldest perennials of English cottages, with a delicate English rose colour. Very floriferous, it forms sumptuous beds and is also a cut flower with an exceptional vase life. Their leaves resemble those of a palm tree.

Simply avoid exposing it to too much heat (midday sun) if your soil is a bit dry.

It self-seeds quite easily and blooms for a long time. They are spectacular in front of a dark hedge.

Planting and care

In fresh soil, plant your Astrantias in the sun or partial shade, avoiding excessive heat exposure (midday sun). In humus-bearing soil, Astrantia self-seeds and easily produces new seedlings capable of flowering within a few weeks, prolonging the flowering period for several months. To plant your pot, prepare the soil by loosening it up to 20 cubic centimetres and adding a bottom layer of a long-lasting amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn. Place your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 centimetres (1 inches) of soil. Fill in the hole, compact the soil, and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. During dry periods, water regularly for a few weeks to aid in root establishment. During wet periods, protect young plantings from slugs. How? With wood ash, slug repellent, or even beer! Each of these solutions is highly effective.
