Collection of Three Star Astrantia

 The collection consists of:

- x 1 Super Star masterwort, repeat flowering, with very large white flowers pointed with green.

- x 1 Star of Beauty masterwort, offering superb bicoloured flowers, white-silver with pink-violet bracts.

- x 1 Star of Passion masterwort, extremely flowering, adorned with a profusion of delicate pink-purple umbels.

These perennial plants come from Astrantia major, a robust alpine species of the Apiaceae family (formerly known as Umbellifers). In spring, they form a clump of large palmate and strongly veined leaves 40 cm (16in) in all directions, from which emerge long, very stiff stems 60 cm (24in) tall carrying the flowers in summer. The flowering renews from June to September. Each inflorescence, in an umbel 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) wide depending on the varieties, is composed of dozens of small flowers surrounded by large shiny bracts, with pearly hues.

Easily grown in ordinary, moist and not too compact soil, Astrantia major grows in a sunny or semi-shady position, even in full shade in hot climates. Simple and elegant, the masterwort brings a natural and refined touch to the garden. This plant, very fashionable in contemporary arrangements, requires little maintenance and thrives even where the garden is not maintained.
