Description
The Duo "for a white and blue flowered low wall" brings together two robust and elegant perennials, perfect for beautifying sunny walls, rockeries or borders. The campanulate bellflower (Campanula portenschlagiana) is a ground-covering plant that carpets the ground or gently cascades over stones, its small blue flowers forming a dense carpet throughout the summer. Alongside it, the 'The Bride' rock rose, with its delicate white flowers, offers a bright flowering in early summer. These two varieties thrive in the sun, require little maintenance, and tolerate cold winters well.
3 Campanula portenschlagiana: also known as wall bellflower, this perennial forms a 15-20 cm high carpet. Its bell-shaped blue flowering spreads from May to September. With its evergreen dark green foliage, it maintains a beautiful appearance even in winter.
2 Helianthemum 'The Bride': this cultivar of rock rose is appreciated for its white flowers that generously bloom from May to July. it is small (20 cm high) and particularly bright. Its evergreen silvery-grey foliage adds a touch of softness to the garden, even when not in bloom.
Plant this duo in spring or early autumn, in light, well-drained soil and in full sun. On a low wall, cascade the Campanula portenschlagiana over the upper edge or at the base of the wall, 30 cm apart. The rock roses will be perfect in the front, to form low and compact cushions. Plan for 5 to 6 plants per m² for a beautiful mass effect. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot in winter.
Pair this duo with Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote', for a harmony of violet and white tones, by placing 3 lavender plants (spaced 40 cm apart) behind the bellflowers to add volume and fragrance. Add 5 dwarf wormwood plants (Artemisia schmidtiana 'Nana'), its silvery foliage blends well with that of the rock rose and accentuates the colour contrast. Finally, introduce 4 snow-in-summer plants Cerastium tomentosum 'Yo Yo' to carpet the ground between the rock roses and enhance the bright effect. This ensemble occupies approximately 5 m² and creates a balanced and refined scene.
