Ajania pacifica Gold and Silver

The Ajania pacifica 'Gold and Silver' is a perennial shrub whose genus is closely related to the chrysanthemum to which it was formerly attached (syn. Chrysanthemum pacificum). The dark green leaves are covered on the underside with dense hairs. Its lovely evergreen foliage is dark green finely margined with silver, with a white underside. Bouquets of golden yellow heads, resembling mimosa, appear from late summer until November.

The Ajania pacifica 'Gold and Silver' is a creeping perennial mainly in sandy, poor and dry soil. In clay soil, even well-drained, it remains in a clump without colonising the surrounding area.

Spontaneous in Far East Asia, it thrives in any well-drained soil and in the sun. Its flowers are nectariferous and melliferous, and their colour will create an interesting contrast with the blue of many autumn asters. You can plant it along the edge of a flower bed, in a rock garden or in a trough accompanied by Carex comans 'Frosted Curls', small sedums or saxifrage.
