I'm not sure if the pot I received actually contained the Delphinium, as apart from a few weeds, I haven't seen any leaves or roots of Delphinium... Planted for 2 weeks, no progress.

More information

Less spectacular, less opulent, but also easier to grow, this very bright variety offers long spikes of light appearance, adorned with single flowers, of a very pure sky blue, with white eye. Of modest size, they renew themselves tirelessly from May to August. Easy to succeed in fresh and humus-bearing soil, this perennial larkspur tolerates partial shade well. It is also more resistant to diseases and parasites. Belladonna hybrids are excellent perennial plants for borders, charming like the flowers of yesteryear.

Description

Less spectacular, lighter, but also easier to grow, Delphinium belladonna 'Ballkleid' (Belladonna' Group)is a very bright variety that offers long airy spikes adorned with single flowers, a very pure sky blue colour, with a small white heart. Of modest size, they tirelessly renew themselves from May to August. Easy to grow in cool and humus-bearing soil, this perennial larkspur tolerates partial shade well. It is also more resistant to diseases and parasites. Belladonna hybrids are excellent perennial plants for borders, faithful and charming like flowers of the past.

Delphinium 'Ballkleid' is a plant from the Ranunculaceae family belonging to a group of perennial varieties obtained by cross-breeding Delphinium elatum and Delphinium grandiflorum. 'Ballkleid' stands out for its good tolerance to semi-shaded exposures, and a flowering of a quite rare light blue tone. It will reach a height between 1m (3ft) and 1.30m (4ft), giving it an erect habit, but often requiring staking. Floral stems emerge from a clump of large palmate and finely divided leaves, from May-June to July-August, depending on the climate. This variety produces sparsely branched spikes, 40cm (16in) long, adorned with flowers measuring 3 to 4cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, single, graceful, and light. They are of an extraordinary sky blue colour, close to perfection, with a small white eye. The plant develops from a woody rootstock that sinks vertically into the soil.

Delphiniums are very floriferous perennial herbaceous plants that always stand out in a garden. Belladonna hybrid Delphiniums allow you to appreciate these plants in a different way, with the joy of finding them faithful, where you expect them, for several years. Their characteristic silhouette always gives borders of perennial plants a sense of grandeur, verticality, and a lot of charm, with an added sense of lightness. They are good companions for moss or gallica roses, with which they form charming and romantic scenes. You can also create another beautiful combination with soft orange daylilies and the baby's breath 'Rosenschleier'. Their flowers hold up well in bouquets.

Note: From March to September, the stems of our Delphiniums are pruned short to promote better branching of the stump and achieve optimal rooting. This pruning also prevents the stems from breaking during transportation.

Planting and care

Without being very difficult, the cultivation of Delphiniums still requires some precautions: these plants dislike heavy and damp soils, as well as dry and poor soils. The soil that suits them is good black soil, rich in humus, non-compact, fresh, even in summer, but not excessively wet in winter, and sheltered from strong winds. Under these conditions, they will live for many years. Also beware of slugs that can cause damage at the beginning of vegetation.
