Delphinium belladona Cliveden Beauty - Larkspur
3 young plants, with barely any roots... I have little hope for their survival. To be continued next season. It's a shame, the rest of the order seems to be of good quality, but these ones were really pitiful...

Delphinium x belladonna 'Cliveden Beauty' is a variety of delphinium that is less spectacular, shorter, but more wind-resistant and easier to cultivate compared to giant varieties. This perennial forms slightly loose clusters, with a very light appearance, scattered with single or semi-double flowers, which are pearly sky blue or an iridescent shade of turquoise and white. Of modest size, they appear twice a year, at the beginning and end of summer, if care is taken to remove faded flowers. Easy to grow in cool and humus-rich soil, with their heads in the sun, this delphinium is also highly resistant to diseases and pests.
Delphinium belladonna 'Cliveden Beauty' is a plant of the Ranunculaceae family belonging to a group of perennial varieties obtained by cross-breeding Delphinium elatum and Delphinium grandiflorum. 'Cliveden Beauty' stands out with a more sturdy habit and a height of less than 80-90 cm (32-35in), allowing it to grow without staking, when sheltered from the wind. Floral stems emerge from a clump of large palmate and finely divided leaves, first in June-July, then again in September-October. This variety produces ramified spikes, 30 cm (12in) long, adorned with flowers 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, usually single, graceful and light, with a curled spur that appears frosted. They are an extraordinary light blue shade, enhanced by an iridescent and pearly hue. Their flowers of a very light turquoise blue and lavender blue colour have a whiter centre. The plant develops from a woody rootstock that grows vertically into the soil.
Delphiniums are highly floriferous perennial plants and always very eye-catching in a garden. Delphinium Belladonna hybrids allow you to appreciate these plants in a different way for several years. Their characteristic silhouette always adds vertical volume, and a lot of charm to perennial plant borders, with an added lightness. They are also good companions for moss or Gallic roses, with which they form charming and romantic scenes. You can also create another beautiful combination with soft orange daylilies and baby's breath 'Rosenschleier'. The 'Cliveden Beauty' variety is well-suited to containers. Its flowers work well in bouquets.
Note: From March to September, the stems of our delphiniums are pruned short to promote better branching of the stump and achieve optimal rooting. This pruning also prevents the stems from breaking during transportation.

Although an easy plant to grow, the cultivation of delphiniums still requires some care. These plants dislike heavy and wet soils, as well as dry and poor soils. The soil that suits them is a good black soil, rich in humus, friable, and damp, even in summer, but without excess moisture in winter. These plants also like shelter from strong winds. Under these conditions, they will live for many years. Also be wary of slugs, which can cause damage to new growth.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
