It's a shame that we can't insert a photo with the review so that potential buyers can see for themselves. It's regrettable, the plants arrived damaged (leaves and stems crushed), 1 out of 3 plants missing. Another plant (pennisetum) ordered was out of stock, not delivered, and refunded without any message or information. Very disappointed with the quality of service.

Description

This 'Galahad' perennial Delphinium, from the 'Pacific' series, is a recent creation that stands out for the size of its flower heads, which can reach 1 metre (3 feet). Each clump of leaves produces numerous flowering stems during the summer, hosting beautiful pure white flowers with black stamens. The giant flowering stems of the 'Pacific' series are susceptible to wind damage and require staking. Plant them at the back of a border, in a sunny location, and deep, moist, well-drained soil.

The 'Galahad' Delphinium is one of the many hybrids derived from the wild species Delphinium elatum, which gave rise to the famous 'Pacific Giant' varieties, created in 1979 by Frank Reinelt in the United States. It is a large, short-lived herbaceous perennial plant with rapid growth. It forms a clump of deeply lobed palmate foliage in a soft green colour, from which 1 metre (3 feet) tall flowering stems emerge in summer on numerous stems ranging from 1.5 to 1.80 metres (5 to 6 feet) in height. The main flowering period takes place in June and continues until September if the stems are cut back as they finish blooming. It is beautiful to pollinating insects. The flowers are single, cup-shaped, clustered on tall upright spikes. They also display white petals surrounding a large collar, known as the "bee" or "fly" in pure white. Only the black stamens add a touch of spice to the immaculate flowers. The plant develops from a woody rhizome that vertically penetrates the soil.

The characteristic silhouette of Delphinium always adds grandeur, verticality, and a lot of style to perennial plant borders. They make great companions for moss or Gallica roses, creating charming and romantic compositions. Another beautiful combination can be made with daylilies, paniculate gypsophila, or even beautiful grasses like Miscanthus. This variety is also suitable for container gardening. It should be carefully staked or supported by tall perennials or flowering shrubs. Its flowers hold up well and are particularly appreciated in bouquets.

Note: From March to September, the stems of our delphiniums are cut short to promote better branching and achieve optimal rooting. This pruning also prevents the stems from breaking during transportation.

Planting and care

To grow delphiniums, plant them in the spring after the last frost in a sunny location, using moist, rich soil that is well-drained. Leave at least two or three shoots for young plants and five to seven for well-established delphiniums. During growth, water once or twice a week and apply liquid fertiliser every two or three weeks. Remove faded flowers by cutting the spikes at the level of the small lateral flowering shoots to maintain the plant's appearance. In autumn, cut back the entire plant to ground level. To add a touch of height to your garden, consider using delphiniums. The tallest ones can provide volume and light against a dark background, while intermediate-sized ones can dress up tall flower beds. Regular watering is essential to maintain vegetation. Be on the lookout for slugs.
