Description

Hardy perennials that only dislike excessive winter moisture and summer drought. It is common for them to go into dormancy at the end of flowering; there is no need to worry, but to avoid too early a "disappearance", the soil must remain moist in summer and be rich in humus, well-drained, and shaded.

A crown with fine, running rhizomes. Large, deeply cut leaves, over 50 cm (20in) long, with a yellow petiole that starts from the ground. Fine spikes of pale yellow flowers well above the foliage. A stunning, rare plant, somewhat difficult to grow. Requires soil that remains consistently moist, but very well-aerated, not compact, and rich in humus. The ideal location is a moist, open understory, without strong, drying winds that this plant hates, in the company of Meconopsis, Francoa, Eomecon chionantha...Most Bleeding Hearts go dormant in late spring, but this does not have any detrimental effects.
