Description

Digitalis mertonensis impresses with its imposing raspberry pink flowers. The flower spike is tighter and wider than on Digitalis purpurea. Superb dark green glossy foliage on this very decorative perennial. Short but sturdy stems carrying large flowers, spotted with purple on the inside.

Some foxgloves are perfectly perennial, others are more biennial with such a tendency to self-seed that they can be considered as perennial. All are highly toxic if ingested. They prefer partial shade or sun, but not scorching sun, and a humus-rich, moist to dry, and well-drained soil. Their upright habit is irreplaceable in scenes where round and upright plants conttrast with and complement each other.

Planting and care

Digitalis grow in all types of soil, but most prefer a rich and moist soil, in partial shade. With a short lifespan, Digitalis regenerate through sowing, with some species self-seeding abundantly. If you don't want to be overrun, cut the flower stalks just after flowering.
