Slugs got the better of both plants this spring. No flowers and very slow growth. The young shoots are being nibbled away... I'm kindly fighting against these greedy ones but without success.

Description

Echinacea purpurea 'Eccentric' is a floriferous perennial that produces beautiful double flowers of 8cm (3in) in diameter from the month of July, in the shape of a campanulate, purplish-red with orange reflections.

The flowers of the 'Eccentric' echinacea are carried by sturdy stems. It is a very vigorous plant. At maturity, it reaches a height of 60cm (24in) and a spread of 25-30cm (10-12in).

It can be found in our perennial beds but also offers incredible flowers for bouquets. This melliferous plant brings joy to birds and butterflies. Easy to grow, 'Eccentric' Echinacea thrives in sunny locations, in any rich and well-drained soil. Beware of slugs feasting on the young foliage in early spring.

Plant 'Eccentric' Echinacea in a wild meadow, at the edge of a bed in a mixed border, or in a contemporary garden alongside campanulate, perennial geraniums, grasses, and lobelias.

Planting and care

Echinacea purpurea 'Eccentric' appreciates a sunny or slightly shady exposure. Plant it in a regular, moist and deep soil, preferably well-drained. It withstands climatic variations such as drought, heat and humidity, and accepts any type of soil. Echinacea is a greedy plant, so regularly add a good fertilizer so that it can fully flourish. Cut back the stems when the flowers have faded to promote the next flowering. Tip: Protect it during the winter in the first year of cultivation.
