Description
Eupatorium maculatum Purple Bush is a tall perennial plant that produces clusters of deep pink flowers from August to September. Its flowers stand upright on purple stems. They can be cut for making bouquets.

The Spotted Joe-Pye Weed is a large leafy perennial with deciduous green foliage. Eupatorium can reach a height of 1.50 m (5ft) when fully mature. This vigorous plant has excellent hardiness.
The plant is melliferous and butterflies and bees love it. You can grow it as a specimen plant or as a background plant. It can also be placed in a flower bed and even along the edge of a pond. However, be careful as it can become invasive.

Planting and care
Eupatorium maculatum Purple Bush thrives in full sun as well as partial shade. Plant it in a regular soil, not too chalky, that is moist and well-drained. It tolerates clay soils but doesn't like overly dry or wet soils. It is a very water-hungry plant. Water it generously during the growing season as it wilts quickly when deprived of rain. Remove faded flowers to prolong its flowering. After flowering, prune the stems to 10 cm (4in) from the ground each year.
