Very healthy plant received (13th June 2024). I think it will flower this year yet. Very satisfied with this shop.

Description

The Gentian, a flower endemic to the Alps, illuminates the meadows of Alpine pastures with its trumpet-shaped flowers in a deep and subtle shade of blue - a Gentian blue!

The sino-ornata variety, with its autumn flowering, is native to the Himalayas. It has very fine lanceolate leaves and bears large, tubular, bell-shaped flowers, 5 cm (2in) long, in a rich blue colour with white veining and a touch of green on the outside.

Plant it alongside colchicums or autumn-flowering crocuses, which it will beautifully complement for an autumn blooming border.

Planting and care

Install your Gentians in partial shade, in neutral or preferably acidic soil (you can add some ericaceous compost to your planting substrate). The soil should be moist but well-drained. They will need watering in summer as they don't tolerate drought well. However they are sensitive to waterlogged soils in winter.
