The plants traveled for a week and therefore suffered from a lack of light. They had leaves with brown spots. As soon as I planted them, they immediately recovered and started producing new leaves.

The 'Fire Storm'® avens is a recent improvement, twice as floriferous and more compact than the 'Fireball' variety! During spring and summer, it presents crumpled semi-double flowers in a very bright orange. Long, slender, and ramified floral stems erect them above a bushy cluster of beautifully divided and velvety leaves. It is a vigorous perennial that is easy to grow. Its vibrant flowers will brighten borders, flowerbeds, and containers in sun or partial shade, in well-drained but moist soil.
Geums are herbaceous perennials in the Rosaceae family, very hardy, native to temperate or colder regions of the northern and southern hemispheres. The 'Fire Storm'® avens is a perennial with a tuft of light green basal foliage, composed of upright, evergreen leaves in winter. They have lythraceous-pinnate shape, with dentate and lobed margins, finely velvety, and measure 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) long. From May to August, cup-shaped flowers appear on thin, ramified, and loosely erect stems above the foliage, blooming in cymes with up to 10 flowers per stem. Each flower measures 3cm (1in) in diameter and is slightly translucent, animated with visible veins, and enhanced by a large cluster of stamens of the same bright orange colour. This fast-growing variety reaches 45cm in height during its flowering periodand has a 50cm (20in) spread. Melliferous, the flowers produce fruits that release brown, feathery aigrettes. Like many long-flowering perennials, this avens does not have a very long lifespan, so it is recommended to divide it every three years to keep it in the garden for a longer time.
Hardy and very floriferous, avens is an easy and versatile plant, worth rediscovering for its simplicity and robustness. It appreciates sunny or partially shaded locations and grows in ordinary, moist, and well-drained soil. It can even tolerate limestone. To fully enjoy its magnificent flowering, this lovely variety, 'Fire Storm', will be ideally placed in border plantings, flowerbeds, mixed borders, in cool rockeries, or even in containers. Its floral stems will compose magnificent bouquets with the bright green-yellow flowers of lady's mantles. Requiring some space to grow well, it is important to leave enough clearance around its base. It will blend beautifully with other spring and summer-flowering perennials, its warm colour will contrast nicely with the purple foliage of Heucheras and creeping bugles. In partial shade, the bright pink flowers of Bergenias or delicate blue Campanulas, geraniums, and Polemoniums will enhance all the nuances of its beautiful flowers. By mixing several varieties of avens together, you can create sublime scenes with romantic or vibrant colours! In full sun, it will perfectly match daylilies, Rudbeckias, Scabious, and shrubby wallflowers, as well as lupins, Salvia nemorosa, and iris.

Botanical data
The 'Fire Storm' Geum, hardy to at least -20°C (1°F), appreciates a sunny or semi-shaded location, open, as well as a regular to rich, light, moist, and well-drained soil. Avens do not tolerate winter humidity, so it will be necessary to avoid waterlogged soils in winter. They also do not tolerate very dry summers.
Planting can be done in spring or autumn. Be sure to regularly remove faded flowers to encourage the emergence of new flower buds and ensure continuous flowering. Since the lifespan of Geum is quite short, it is advisable to divide the clumps every 3 or 4 years, in spring or autumn. Regular organic fertilization is beneficial for them.
Very resistant to diseases, Benoites are sometimes susceptible to sawfly larvae attacks, which can damage the foliage. Excessive dryness can also make avens susceptible to powdery mildew.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
