I THINK I PLANTED IT A BIT TOO MUCH IN THE SHADE. IT DIDN'T FLOWER.

Description

The Perennial Geranium 'Melinda' flowers from May to August in partial shade. The petals are strong pale pink veined with brighter pink and the dark green foliage is very elegant, which enhances this flowering beautifully. It has a compact yet spreading habit, forming a soft, flowing mass that deserves a prime position in the foreground of borders, edging, or elevated in a rockery. Here is a wonderful perennial for all gardens, in rich, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.

The 'Melinda' Geranium belongs to the geranium family, it is a hybrid between G. oxonianum and G. sylvaticum. It has a bushy and ramified habit, reaching a height and width of 40 cm (16in). It flowers at the top of branching stems, in successive waves. Its flowers, with a diameter of 20 to 30 mm (1in), are pale pink in color, with dark anthers in the center of the flower. The foliage is deciduous, consisting of lobed and dentate leaves, in a beautiful green color, arranged almost along the entire length of the robust and villous stems. This plant spreads through its rootstock, forming strong, good ground cover.

Like many other perennial geranium species, 'Melinda' performs very well in all gardens. These are superb plants, providing nectar and pollen for numerous insects such as butterflies, bees, bumblebees, etc. Ideal in borders, along pathways, or on slopes, this geranium will add a colorful touch to simple perennial beds and effectively cover the ground. It is a perfect companion for lupins, bellflowers, poppies, and other large daisies.

Planting and care

The perennial geranium 'Melinda' prefers a sunny exposure and a fresh, well-drained, rather chalky soil. In heavy soil, incorporate leaf compost into the garden soil in the planting hole. It tolerates partial shade well, although it will be less floriferous. You can prune the faded flowers to encourage a second bloom.
