I imagined it to be shy, probably because of its name. Not at all! Planted next to the generous Rozanne, it holds its own and produces numerous flowers with midrib not too large; fresh colour, just like in the photo.

Description

The Perennial Geranium 'Sweet Heidi' is a close relative of Geranium 'Rozanne', from which it has inherited the same qualities, namely long and abundant flowering. It stands out with its paler flowers, lilac pink with a white heart.

Nicknamed 'Crane's Beak', this ground cover perennial forms a hardy carpet of broad, palmate, medium green leaves with lighter spots, turning red in autumn. It can be evergreen if the winter is not too harsh. The cup-shaped flowers with 5 lilac pink petals and a white heart veined with purple, as well as the stamens, bloom continuously from May to October.

Easy to grow, 'Sweet Heidi' Geranium thrives in rich, moist, humus-bearing and well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Limestone is not a problem. The sunnier the spot, the cooler the soil should be. In regions with very hot summers, mulch the clump.

The Perennial Geranium 'Sweet Heidi' fits well in perennial and shrub borders, creating a connection between species. It is a great plant for slopes or rockeries.

Tips: Cut back the flowered stems as short as possible to encourage a second flush of blooms.

Planting and care

The 'Sweet Heidi' perennial Geranium should be planted from September to April, at a rate of 5 plants per square meter, in a rich, moist, and well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. It requires little maintenance. Weed carefully while the plant is filling its space. Keep the soil moist in summer by mulching around the clump. Divide the plant every 5 years after flowering to rejuvenate and propagate it. To promote a second flowering, cut back the faded stems.
