Description

Geranium 'Azure Rush' is a new variety, in the same vein as 'Rozanne', from which it originates. It has the same qualities, but it is more compact, with slightly purple-marked green foliage, even denser branches, and remarkable vigour. Its sky-blue flowering is abundant and generous, blooming from June until the first frost. Ideal for a sunny spot in the garden. It is not afraid of harsh winter cold, summer heat, or limestone soils. It is, without a doubt, a new essential plant, sumptuous as a ground cover or in hanging baskets.

Geranium is a genus in the Geraniaceae family. The 'Azure Rush' variety is a mutation of the famous hybrid 'Rozanne', which has already proven itself and has a well-established reputation. This plant has a bushy, rounded and compact habit, reaching 40 to 50cm (16 to 20in) in height and spread. It flowers abundantly in June, and the flowers continue to bloom throughout summer until October. The petals are an intense pale-blue, with a white zone at the centre that provides brightness in the garden. The violet anthers are clearly visible in the centre of the corollas. The foliage is medium green, highly dissected, and marked with purple. It takes on a reddish tint in autumn before disappearing.

Introduced by "Blooms of Bressingham," renowned for the quality and vigour of its new varieties, 'Azure Rush' is completely hardy and suitable for all types of gardens, from wild gardens to herb gardens, to more carefully tended flower beds. It adapts wonderfully well to growing in large pots or hanging baskets, on a patio or balcony. It complements the orange blooms of bush potentillas or daylilies. A natural ground cover, it will spread along the edges of flower beds, between bellflowers and heucheras. It can also accompany pink or red asters (Aster dumosus 'Jenny' or A. 'September Ruby') in a vibrant and colourful scene. Its association with old-fashioned or English roses is incredibly romantic.

Planting and care

The 'Azure Rush' perennial geranium enjoys full sun or partial shade. Plant early in spring or in autumn in all types of soil with a layer of drainage. Water at the beginning to help the young plants establish. It doesn't mind the winter cold as long as it's not in overly wet soil. In heavy soil, incorporate leaf compost or coarse sand into your garden soil. Deadhead the flowers to encourage reblooming. The clumps can be divided every three years in spring. This easy-to-grow plant requires minimal maintenance.
