The Geranium cinereum, or ash geranium, is, like the famous 'Ballerina', a perennial dwarf characterised by its highly divided, soft, ash-coloured leaves and its very long spring-to-summer flowering. The species has given rise to numerous hybrids and cultivars, with flowers ranging from intense magenta red in the "subcaulescens" variety to almost white, including the entire range of pinks. Typically found in mountainous regions, this plant native to the Pyrenees is adapted to extreme conditions, making its cultivation easy and hassle-free. All its descendants have retained a very undemanding character and are resistant to cold. You can plant them in full sun or partial shade, in any soil, even rocky, as long as it is well-drained. In the garden, you can place them in a rockery or pots, for example, with Silver Basket and Kent Beauty Oregano. The ash geranium also gracefully adorns the base of roses and makes beautiful borders in flower beds.
