Vigorous plant, but still not in the colour ordered, which undermines confidence in the website a bit!

Description

Originally from northwest Turkey to the Caucasus, northeast Greece, Helleborus x hybridus white spotted is a perennial plant with white flowers with a widely marked reddish-brown centre that will brighten up the shaded areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It has spreading, palmate, slightly toothed, dark green, shiny, evergreen basal leaves 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) long and composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

Oriental Hellebore reaches 40 cm (16in) highat maturity and spreads up to 30 cm (12in). From January to March, a stem of single, nodding, cup-shaped flowers forms, 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) in diameter. Hellebore is a bushy plant. It does not like to be moved once established, as the young plants take some time to flower.

This toxic plant should be handled with care. It can be used as cut flowers and in borders, edgings, or containers. Over time, Hellebore flowers do not fade like most other flowers but dry up.

Each seed sown Hellebore has a unique flower colour, so slight colour variations may exist between two plants, which is normal and unavoidable. However, if the difference is too significant and distorts the desired effect, we will refund or replace the affected plant.

Planting and care

Helleborus Orientalis grows in most rich and neutral soil in partial or light shade, sheltered from the wind. It can be planted from early autumn to spring to bloom from January to March. It thrives in deeply worked soil mixed with organic matter. Feed with bone meal or another organic fertilizer. Add a little lime to acidic soil. Water well after planting and add a layer of mulch 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove wilted leaves. Cut most of the leaves to highlight the flowers. Do not plant too close together, to promote their development. Hellebore does not like stagnant water, as it may cause rot.
