But what a wonderful flower! Bought in spring, it bloomed in July, 3 superb flowers, much more beautiful than the illustration photos. I am delighted with my purchase!

Description

The Hemerocallis 'Chocolate Candy' is a perennial plant adorned with large mahogany-red flowers.

These large trumpet-shaped flowers emerge and renew themselves from July to August and only last for one day, hence their name "daylily". They measure 10 cm (4in) in diameter and can reach a mature height of 60 to 70 cm (24 to 28in).

The Hemerocallis has semi-evergreen grass-like foliage that is bright green in colour. Native to Asia, the daylily is very hardy.

The Hemerocallis is a solitary plant, but it can also be grown both as a border plant and in a mass planting. It fits in with any style of garden, growing in full sun or partial shade, in any type of rich soil, as long as it does not lack moisture during its flowering period.

Planting and care

Daylilies like sunny but cool exposures. Avoid overly dry or shaded conditions that will reduce flowering. Plant them in fertile, cool, and well-drained soil. Easy to grow, daylilies can sometimes be prone to rust and collar rot in high humidity conditions, combined with temperatures over 30°C (86°F). Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. At the end of the flowering season, old leaves deteriorate, so cut them 20cm (8in) from the ground to promote the growth of new ones.
