Undecided on this one. The young plant arrived fine but nothing special, planted with the others and one of the two shoots disappeared 15 days after planting. I hope the other one is more sturdy, as the colour is nice. Perhaps the daylilies prefer spring plantings after all.

Description

Daylily Custard Candy produces a multitude of wide flowers with delicately scalloped petals, in a amber yellow colour with a garnet centre.

These large trumpet-shaped flowers emerge and renew from July to August, lasting only one day, hence their name "daylilies". They measure 10 cm (4in) in diameter. This perennial plant can reach 60 to 70 cm (24 to 28in) in height at maturity.

Hemerocallis has semi-evergreen foliage, which is bright green in colour. Native to Asia, the daylily is very hardy.

The Daylily is a solitary plant, but it can also be cultivated in borders or flowerbeds. It fits into all styles of gardens and grows in full sun or partial shade, in any type of rich soil, as long as it doesn't lack moisture during its flowering period.

Planting and care

Daylilies like sunny but cool exposures. Avoid conditions that are too dry or too shady, as they will reduce flowering. Plant them in a fertile, damp but well-drained soil. Easy to grow, the daylily can sometimes be prone to rust and collar rot in case of high rainfall, combined with temperatures over 30°C (86°F). Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. At the end of the flowering period, the old leaves become damaged, cut them 20cm (8in) from the ground to promote the growth of new ones.
