Description

Heuchera Plum Royale has a magnificent shiny foliage: silver-purple veined with dark purple. During the summer, small white bell-shaped flowers bloom along a dark purple stem, creating a very aesthetic contrast.

This new heuchera forms beautiful evergreen and palmate rosettes of leaves, which remain shiny even in winter. Heuchera Plum Royale reaches a height of up to 35 cm (14 in). It has excellent hardiness (down to -20 °C (-4 °F)). Its spreading habit makes it an ideal ground cover to adorn the base of roses.

The Plum Royale variety has white bell-shaped flowers on purple stems, perfect as cut flowers to add lightness to bouquets. Easy to grow, it thrives in partial shade in rich, moist, and light soil. Its colourful foliage allows for many vibrant combinations, and it can be planted alongside Hosta 'Halcyon' or 'Blue Cadet', Pulmonaria 'Majesté', brunneras, or at the base of Astilbe chinensis, for example.

Planting and care

Plant Heuchera Plum Royale in a planting hole measuring 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially fill the hole, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Adding a slow-release fertiliser (dried blood or crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, regular watering for a few weeks will help your plant establish. The woody stump tends to emerge from the ground, so mulch annually. Heucheras renew their foliage in late winter, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves, in January or February.
