I never have an "eye" for window boxes. I always tend to favor flowers over foliage, which is why I opted for this mix. I replanted it in a concrete grey pot of around 20cm (8in) to decorate my dad's gravestone. This composition is BEAUTIFUL, especially in this autumn season, I highly recommend it +++

Description

The Joyful Plant composition from the Autumn Fairy collection is a group of four perennial plants selected for their foliage which is varied in texture, habit, and colour. They harmoniously blend together and remain attractive even in winter. All are easy to grow in pots or in the ground. While the composition is at its peak in autumn, it also flowers in summer and is leafy in winter. Already composed, this mix allows you to instantly, tastefully and durably enhance the terrace or garden.

The Joyful composition includes:

- 1 x Coreopsis: a generous perennial with fine foliage and a very long summer flowering period of small bright yellow flowers with dark red centres. The above-ground vegetation is deciduous and disappears in winter.

- 1 x Heuchera or coral bells with large, dark caramel-coloured leaves with bronze and red highlights. This perennial plant has extremely light floral spikes adorned with tiny white-pink bells in summer. The foliage persists more or less in winter.

- 1 x Carex, a small, non-invasive perennial grass with long, slender green leaves tinged with bronze. Its vegetation forms a small, bright tuft that persists in winter.

- 1 x Hedera: a compact variety of ivy with small, marbled green leaves. This perennial produces long, spreading or trailing stems capable of rooting. The foliage persists in winter.

Grown in the same pot, these perennial plants go well together. They should be repotted in a larger container to showcase them on the balcony or terrace. This composition can also be planted in the ground, in the sun or partial shade, in well-drained, rich, and fairly moist soil.

Planting and care

Plant your Joyful composition in spring or early autumn, in a large container to allow the plants to reach their full potential. Use rich and light compost and water regularly. Apply universal fertilizer in spring. Choose a sunny to semi-shaded exposure. The created pot can stay outside over winter as all the plants are hardy.

In the ground: if your soil is heavy, mix in some compost and sand and place your composition so that the top of the root ball is covered with 2-3 cm (1in) of soil. The addition of a base fertilizer will nourish your plants during the rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to aid establishment, then water regularly (especially the loosestrife) if it is very dry. We recommend pruning the dry leaves and stems in February-March.
