Hosta Mighty Mouse

Hosta 'Mighty Mouse' is an adorable variegated version of the 'Blue Mouse Ears' hosta. This miniature variety has small, thick, blue-green leaves with bright cream-yellow margins, turning grey-green with cream-white margins in summer. Despite its small size, it is very sturdy and forms a dense and bright mound that is very neat, adorned with lavender flower spikes in summer. Neglected by gastropods, this variety will create graphic borders or even an elegant groundcover when planted en masse in damp shade. It also grows very well in pots.

Hosta 'Mighty Mouse' is a deciduous perennial plant in the hosta family, or the lily family according to classical classification. From spring onwards, it forms small, almost spreading circular clumps with symmetrical growth. The plant reaches a height of 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8in) and spreads over 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20in). It has excellent longevity. It has small heart-shaped leaves with smooth and very thick laminae, with a powdery appearance. They have a curious aspect reminiscent of mouse ears, as their margins are rolled and their tips are tapered. Well-proportioned flower stems rise through the foliage and display relatively large bell-shaped flowers compared to the plant in July-August. They are pale lavender and borne in fairly compact clusters. This perennial spreads through stolons, similar to strawberries.

Hosta 'Mighty Mouse' pairs well with helxine, alchemilla, ferns, eucomis in partial shade. The effect will be elegant, unusual, and will require minimal maintenance. This dwarf hosta will also thrive in a border, a damp and shaded rockery, alongside columbines and bleeding hearts, or even small violets. All hostas grow well in pots and can remain in the same container for several years. As long as the foliage is not too dense, watering from the top of the pot can be done. Then place a saucer under the pot to keeping the moisture level constant in summer.
