Description

The aquatic Iris pseudacorus Plena grows by the water's edge. This variety has a striking double flower in the strictest sense of the term: like a second flower installed within the first. In nature, Marsh Iris thrives in ditches and wet or marshy areas. It is a good bank stabilizer, also used in water purification. Its upright clumps bring structure and vitality to flower beds. These useful qualities should not overshadow its elegant golden-yellow flowering. Plant it in full sun or partial shade, along the edge of a pond or with the crown slightly submerged.

The marsh iris is a semi-aquatic rhizomatous perennial plant from the Iridaceae family. It can be found in a large part of Europe, up to the gates of Asia. Further south, it is found all around the Mediterranean. It has green, glabrous, slender and narrow leaves, tapering to a point, evergreen in winter. In the Plena variety,  double, golden yellow flowers appear in groups of two or three at the top of the flower stem, from June to August. The entire plant reaches 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32in) high, up to 1 m (3ft) under favourable conditions. There is no theoretical limit to its spread. It is a perfect plant for gardens of any kind with a water feature. Decorative and luminous, its flowers illuminate your banks with an eye-catching yellow.

Iris pseudacorus Plena is an iris with excellent hardiness and great adaptability. It thrives in sunny positions along with Reeds or Cattails for wild atmospheres, in a border that is submerged permanently, or for part of the year. You can plant it with Hostas, Goat's Beards, Golden Groundsels, for example
