Description

Anemone hybrid 'Hadspen Abundance' blooms in late summer and carries, on sturdy floral stems, raspberry pink flowers with a pearly flesh pink border.

A hardy perennial plant, the Japanese anemone 'Hadspen Abundance' blooms from mid-summer to autumn. Its floral stems, solid and upright, reach up to 80cm (32in) in height. The flowers measure 7-9cm (3-4in) in diameter and are dark raspberry pink edged with pearly flesh pink, with a cluster of golden stamens in the centre. The foliage, dark green and very abundant on the ground, is strongly palmate with 5 lobes.

'Hadspen Abundance' thrives in moist, light and humus-rich soil. It tolerates brief periods of drought and can withstand non-scorching sun.

When grown in suitable conditions the Japanese anemone spreads vigorously, thriving at the base of trees, in the edge of woodlands or at the back of borders, forming magnificent colonies.

You can plant it alongside persicarias, cimicifugas, and perennial geraniums.

For winter bouquets, cut stems whose seed capsules look dry and place them in a vase. After 2 hours at room temperature, you will see pure white catkins appear!

Planting and care

Japanese anemones thrive in partial shade under large trees. They tolerate temporary drought. During the first year the plant develops its roots in the soil, and it is only in the second year that it begins to sucker and flower properly.
