No more success with these young plants of lupins than with the other orders at the same time: not a single leaf appeared and even less flowers.

Description

Lupinus 'The Governor' is a deciduous perennial plant with a bushy habit. From June to July, terminal spikes measuring 20 to 60cm (8 to 24in) long appear, composed of pea-like flowers. The flowers are dark blue and white and measure 1 to 3cm (1in) long. It is a plant with very good hardiness that spreads without becoming invasive.

At maturity, the plant can reach a height of 90cm (35in). It is very vigorous and resistant to diseases. It is native to the Mediterranean region, North Africa, and North America. This lupin has compound foliage, mainly composed of palmate basal leaves with lanceolate leaflets, which are often slightly hairy on the underside.

Lupinus 'The Governor' is a good ground cover plant. It grows in dry meadows, hills, open forests, coastal areas, cliffs, and riverbanks. It is an excellent plant for borders of perennial beds and flower beds. It also thrives when planted alone.

Planting and care

Lupinus 'The Governor' thrives in the sun, partial shade, and even under trees in spring. Place it in light, well-draining, humus-bearing, and moderately moist soil. It is an easy-to-grow perennial. Removing faded flowers will help it bloom again in autumn. Water generously. Pay attention to the leaves, which can sometimes be attacked by mildew and root rot (especially if the roots are dry). Lupins can be susceptible to leaf spots, galls, viruses, and attacks by snails and slugs during the growing season.
