Description

The nudicaulous poppy 'Gartenzwerg', better known as the Iceland poppy, is a biennial plant for summer flower beds. Its stout inflorescences, 30cm (12in) tall, provide a long-lasting flowering, ideal for bouquets.

This mix of warm colors ranges from cream white to golden yellow to coppery orange. The flowers are of a good size, measuring between 4 and 5cm (2in) in diameter.

It thrives in sunny, deep, poor, and stony soils.

The 'Gartenzwerg' poppy blooms all summer, plant it at the edge of flower beds, alone or accompanied by plants that tolerate dry conditions: 'Terracotta' yarrow, 'Firebird' agastache, Stipa tenuifolia, 'White Domino' mullein, 'Chile Black' scabiosa, etc...

Planting and care

Install spreading Iceland poppies in full sun, in deep, poor, and well-drained soil. In heavy soil, add 60% gravel to your topsoil and mix it into the planting hole. At the end of flowering, Iceland poppies form spherical seed capsules, allowing the plant to spread and ensuring their longevity. Cut off some inflorescences if you want to limit the plant's propagation.
