Delivery and packaging: very good; the young plant is now in flower and meets expectations. I think I will get more, while fighting against slugs and snails who seem to greatly appreciate them.

Of moderate size, this recent hybrid disappears under its panicles of pink-lilac flowers for 3 weeks in June, then again in October. Compact and bushy, not exceeding 40 cm (16in) in height, this sturdy variety withstands wind and rain and has green-yellow foliage that is disease-resistant. This lovely perennial prefers the sun and moist soil, but is less demanding of water than tall phlox.

Description

The Phlox Forever Pink is a vigorous small American hybrid phlox that is very compact, floriferous, and resistant to bad weather and diseases that often affect tall paniculate phlox in summer. It disappears under panicles of pink-mauve flowers for three weeks in June and continues to bloom until October. This new perennial is an excellent addition to the phlox family. It has a long flowering period that starts after the flowering of moss phlox, before the flowering of spotted phlox and paniculate phlox and ends after the flowering of tall paniculate phlox in autumn. It is straightforward to grow and can be used in sunny borders, low beds, patios or balconies.

The 'Forever Pink' Phlox belongs to the family of Polemoniaceae. It is a horticultural hybrid obtained in Chicago in 2007, following the cross-breeding between P. glaberrima ssp. Triflora and Phlox 'Bill Baker'. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a woody base forming a low tuft, bushy with a rather spreading habit, composed of leafy stems. The plant will not exceed 40 cm in height when in bloom and 45 to 50 cm (18 to 20in) in width. The stiff and strong stems are covered with alternate, simple, ovate and lanceolate leaves, light green tinged with yellow, measuring 12 cm (5in) in length. The abundant flowering begins in early June and continues throughout the summer until October, provided they are deadheaded. The small flowers, 2.5cm (1in) wide, have non-fused pink petals with a hint of mauve when they bloom. They are grouped at the end of the erect, very dense, and pyramidal panicles covering the plant, whose weight barely bends the short stems. This variety of plant likely produces an abundance of flowers because it is believed to be sterile.

Phlox is a type of perennial plant that is commonly grown in ornamental gardens. Their legendary simplicity and generosity are almost unmatched in perennial borders, making them a popular choice for gardeners. The 'Forever Pink' Phlox is a standout variety due to its small size and ability to remain beautiful throughout the season with its flowers and leaves. It pairs well with other plants such as Monardes, poppies, perennial delphiniums, and Marguerites. In borders, you can pair the 'Forever Pink' Phlox with dwarf asters, Salvia nemerosa, Rosemoor, or Blue Cloud perennial geraniums. To punctuate the border, you can add some silver or grey foliage such as artemisias, cinerarias, Stachys, or silver baskets. Moreover, the 'Forever Pink' Phlox is an excellent choice for creating flower pots.

Planting and care

Paniculate phlox is an easy-to-grow plant. For best results, grow the 'Forever Pink' variety in fresh, rich soil that is well-drained. It can handle slightly damp soil, even if it's clayey, but needs proper drainage. Once established, it needs less water than taller paniculate phlox and can handle periods of dryness. It needs plenty of sunlight to bloom well. Its leaves are less prone to powdery mildew. If it's in a hot, sunny climate, it will need more water and mulching at the base. To encourage a second bloom later in the season, prune the faded flowers. Protect young plants from slugs that are attracted to their tender shoots.
