The young plant arrived slightly more damaged than the others, I think it's due to the transportation. I immediately repotted it and it's already regaining some stature, I believe it will recover quickly. The other plants have also been repotted, they have already lifted their leaves. They all look magnificent.

Description

Phlox paniculata 'Hesperis' is named after Hesperis matronalis. Its beautiful paniculate inflorescences, studded with multiple small flowers of a very soft lilac hue, resemble those of Dame's Rocket in terms of appearance and colour. Gorgeous in bouquets, charming and fragrant, they bloom in July and August and are easy-to-grow perennials.

Phlox paniculata Hesperis are essential in all cottage gardens or those with a romantic allure. Their bushy habit is perfect for mixed borders and their height allows them to be interspersed at different levels. Their flowering is abundant, colourful, fragrant, and they attract insects that are very fond of them. Don't hesitate to grow them in large numbers, they will allow you to create lush and long-lasting bouquets. They appreciate moist, well-drained, and rather rich soil. Their flowering is more spectacular in the sun, but they also thrive in partial shade. They are hardy and can withstand temperatures below - 15°C (59°F). To enjoy a long flowering period, don't hesitate to remove faded flowers as they appear.

This vigorous herbaceous perennial has erect stems that reach up to 100 cm (39in) and bear large panicles (10/15 cm (4/6in)) at their tops, composed of multiple small flowers measuring 2 to 3 cm (1in) in diameter. Their corolla, long tubular at the base, suddenly opens into five lobes and takes on the shape of a cup, giving them a star-like appearance. Packed closely together, they form a lovely dome of a very poetic colour. They stand out perfectly against their medium green foliage, composed of deciduous, lanceolate, alternate leaves arranged regularly along the stems.

The 'Hesperis' variety can reach a height of 50 cm (20in). It easily fits into large beds of pastel summer flowers. Lupines, Meadow-rues, will mingle with other Phlox to provide a variety of pink and violet shades. Don't forget to plant several of them for bountiful and fragrant floral displays.

Planting and care

Phlox paniculata are easy to grow plants. 'Hesperis' will prefer a damp and rich soil, even clay which has good draindage.  If your summers are hot and dry, water for the first year or mulch the base to protect it. It can be planted in spring or autumn in a sunny position, but it also tolerates light shade.

Like most Phlox, it remains susceptible to powdery mildew. Preventive treatment can therefore be beneficial and be careful not to wet the foliage.

Watch out for slugs in spring when vegetation starts to appear and remove faded flowers during the season.

You can divide the stump every 3-4 years depending on its development.
