Received and planted in March. It has recovered and bloomed. Only 2 flower spikes. I hope it will become more lush in the following years. For now, it's only 4 months old!

Description

Phlox paniculata Younique 'White' is a variety of Phlox paniculata that has pure white flowers. It is part of a series of compact, floriferous, fragrant cultivars, with flowers that release a slight spicy and fruity fragrance. It is a resistant variety, with medium green foliage that is not very susceptible to fungal diseases. Its compact size makes it suitable for small gardens, pots or borders. This perennial can be grown in any moist soil, in full sun. Visited by all pollinating insects, it also provides lovely flowers for summer bouquets.

Phlox paniculata Younique 'White' belongs to the family of Polemoniaceae. It is also known as Phlox paniculata 'Verswhite'. It is a herbaceous perennial with a woody stump that forms a well-branched clump of leafy stems starting in spring. Eventually, the plant reaches about 40 cm (16in) in height and 40-45 cm (16-18in) in width. The stiff and somewhat brittle stems are covered with alternate, simple, ovate and lanceolate leaves, which are a bright green colour. Flowering begins in June-July, depending on the climate, and continues until September, as long as faded inflorescences are removed. At full bloom, the plant can reach a height of 65-70 cm (26-28in) in rich soil. The small flowers, measuring 1.5 to 2.5 cm (1in) in diameter, have a tubular corolla which is a pure white colour. They are grouped at the end of the stems in dense panicles, which are pleasantly fragrant. The flowering is melliferous and nectariferous. These varieties are resistant to heat and humidity, and are not very susceptible to powdery mildew.

This panicled phlox appreciates a sunny position, although it tolerates some shade. Its compact size makes it a good focal point in flowerbeds, borders or containers in any garden, even smaller ones. In cottage gardens where they are commonly found, as well as in romantic-inspired flowerbeds or cottage gardens, phlox offer a long and generous flowering period. They pair well with lighter flowers of different shapes, such as Liatris spicata, Helenium, Asters, and the small purple heads of Allium sphaerocephalon. In a white garden, Younique 'White' offers immaculate flowers that can be paired with white roses or gauras.

Planting and care

Phlox 'Younique White' prefers a damp and rich soil, even clay which is well-drained. It needs sun to flower well. A too dry or too hot environment makes the foliage more susceptible to powdery mildew. Planted in the sun in a climate with hot summers, it will require regular watering and mulching at the base. Pruning faded flowers promotes a second flowering at the end of the season. Protect young plants from slugs, which are fond of their tender shoots.
