Description

Originally from North America, Podophyllum peltatum is a large perennial plant with running rhizomes forming beautiful colonies in the undergrowth. Its original peltate leaves are deeply lobed, shiny, and have a lovely bronze-green colour that turns light green. The pure white flowers with rounded petals bloom under the foliage and are often hidden.

Its northern origins give it great resistance to cold. It is the only species in its genus that can grow and thrive under trees, in the presence of roots, and therefore tolerate dry shade. In the heart of summer, its foliage disappears, allowing it to protect itself from drought.

Highly aesthetically pleasing when planted alone under large trees on the edge of the undergrowth, Podophyllum peltatum forms beautiful combinations with hostas, Lysimachias, ferns, and Carex elata 'Aurea'.
