Primula japonica Apple Blossom - Japanese Primrose

The Primula Japonica 'Apple Blossom' is a beautiful deciduous perennial with large pale green toothed leaves measuring about 20 cm (8in). This candelabra primrose bears flower spikes in the colours of apple blossoms: from May to July, clusters of pale pink tubular flowers with coral red centres appear. This 60 cm (24in) tall perennial thrives in moist to marshy soils. An ideal location would be near a stream or pond, preferably in the shade. With no maintenance required, it spreads and thrives freely. In flowerbeds, it adds height and lightness and can also be cultivated in pots.

Primula japonica, a candelabra primrose species, is a beautiful deciduous perennial whose flowering accompanies spring flowerbeds, complementing the foliage of other perennials that are still in bud. The large oval and toothed leaves are light green, and the bright pink flowers arranged in whorls are staggered in 5 to 6 ranks.
