Description
The 'Butterfly Blue' Pincushion Flower blooms for a very long period. The lavender-blue flowers appear from May until frost without interruption. Its rustic touch gives a beautiful natural aspect to the garden.
The flowers are adorable 4-5 cm (2in) in diameter pompoms, with protruding stamens like small needles stuck in a ball of wool. They sway in the wind at the end of thin stems. This airy appearance makes them lovely flowers for light bouquets.
Planting pincushion flowers will attract bees, butterflies, and beautiful burnet moths. In flower beds, plant them alongside other perennials. For example, with baby's breath, sage, and fountain grass, the combination will be bucolic.

Planting and care
Plant the Scabiosa columbaria 'Butterfly Blue' in a sunny spot to the north and slightly shadier to the south. They prefer slightly chalky, well-drained soils. Water them regularly in the first year, but not excessively. They sometimes tend to decline after 2 or 3 seasons. To keep them, enrich with organic fertilizer, and ensure they do not suffer from excessive moisture in winter by lightening the planting substrate with sand.
