Two young plants of yellow scabious that did not take root and languished, despite being in the ground: I am disappointed!

Description

Scabiosa ochreuloca is a perennial plant with a wild appearance, highly valued for its loose habit, its bright cream-yellow flowering, and its tendency to naturalise.

Forming a clump with very dissected leaves, the yellow scabious produces pale-yellow flowers with ivory reflexes. They are carried by flexible and branched stems that reach a height of 60 to 80cm (24 to 32in). Its very long flowering period starts in June and lasts until October.

With such abundant flowering, this perennial has a short lifespan, about 3-4 years maximum. But fear not! Scabiosa ochroleuca produces beautiful ovoid infructescences on which small but numerous seeds will disperse and germinate in well-draining, poor or rich soil, ensuring its great longevity.

It thrives in full light and will grow on sunny banks, in large rockeries, or in dry beds. Plant it with Echinacea 'Green Jewel', Eupatorium 'Braunlaub', Cimicifuga 'White Pearl', and Pennisetum 'Hameln'.

Planting and care

Plant them in a sunny spot in cooler regions and in a semi-shaded position in warmer ones. They prefer slightly alkaline, well-drained soils. Avoid planting them in peat soil. Water them regularly, but not excessively. Ensure they do not suffer from excess moisture in winter by lightening the planting substrate with sand.
