The Sedum 'Sunsparkler Dazzleberry' is a recent variety of stonecrop belonging to a wonderful series of hybrids selected in the U.S.A., the Sedum Sunsparkler. This small plant, which grows as a creeping cushion, is a remarkably colourful ground cover with naturally dense vegetation. Its small succulent foliage changes from grey-blue to slate blue over time, while its generous inflorescences are paved with small frothy raspberry-pink flowers that form a beautiful harmony with the foliage. 'Dazzleberry' is also a lovely low-maintenance plant that only requires a sunny exposure. Plant it along a dry pathway, in a rock garden, as ground cover around perennial beds, or even in a pot on the terrace!
Sedums belong to the family of stonecrop plants. 'Dazzleberry' is the first sedum in the Sunsparkler series, introduced in the U.S.A. by Chris Hansen. It is a hybrid cultivar derived from different species and varieties of Sedum. With a dense cushion-like habit, it slowly forms very compact cushions without hollow centers, reaching a height of 20 cm (8in) and spreading 30-40 cm (12-16in). The flowering occurs from August to October, lasting at least 2 months and only ceasing with the first frost. The inflorescences, in flat terminal cymes, are spectacular in this variety. They bloom well above the cushion of leaves, both dense and light, barely revealing the foliage. The tiny star-shaped flowers with prominent stamens emerge as purple-violet buds and then open into a rich raspberry-pink. Intensely nectar-rich, they attract numerous butterflies and bees. The robust herbaceous stems, short and purple in colour, emerge from the basal foliage composed of small fleshy leaves, whose unusual colour changes from grey-blue to a deeper slate blue. The leaves are flat and ovate, arranged in clusters around the stems. This completely deciduous plant disappears in late autumn and re-emerges from the ground in spring.
A boon for gardens with shallow soil and ideal in flower pots, Sedum is a plant that is in tune with the times. Requiring nothing more than sunlight, it thrives enthusiastically in poor soils, is water-wise, naturally beautiful, and requires very little maintenance. Combine it with small ornamental grasses such as graceful Stipa, Muhlenbergia, Panicum, certain Carex, as well as grey-leaved plants that often tolerate these challenging growing conditions, just like Sedum. You can create an unforgettable scene by pairing it with Delosperma, Euphorbia myrsinites, or Thyme ground covers (Thymus ciliatus, hirsutus, longicaulis), Lady's Mantle, or small blue fescues (Intense Blue)... The 'Sunsparkler' Sedums are absolutely stunning in pots and containers.

Botanical data
The Sedum 'Sunsparkler' settles in dry, even rocky, and sunny soil in spring or autumn. It also tolerates heavy or slightly calcareous substrates. However, if your soil is moist or likely to retain some moisture in winter, do not hesitate to add gravel to the planting hole. Take the same precautions if you want to place it in a container.
The pruning of the inflorescences is done at the end of flowering or in early spring, in March, if you prefer to keep the dried flowers on the plant for winter decoration. Beware of gastropods that tend to enjoy the leaves and create beautiful cutouts in them. If your Sedum tends to thin out in the center, it will be time to divide the stump (approximately every 3-4 years depending on its development).

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
