Description

The Thalictrum aquilegiifolium is a perennial with the appearance of a gypsophila. It develops very airy flower stems in shades of pink and lilac. It has beautiful finely cut foliage. It reaches a height of over 1m (3ft) and therefore makes a good background plant for partially shaded areas. It pairs well with lilies.

It is a plant that takes a little while to establish, but is worth the wait.

Planting and care

Thalictrum plants can be planted in the middle or at the back of the flower bed, in partial shade on rich and moist soil. Do not cut the plants to the ground after flowering, as new shoots will only emerge at the end of the following spring. Remove faded flowers to prevent excessive self-seeding. Tip: Dare to go tall with these giant plants that provide structure and volume in the garden. The tallest ones will add volume and lightness against a dark backdrop of hedges or conifers. The intermediate sized plants will add to tall flower beds, such as those with giant dahlias.
