Planting and care
Heuchera, Tiarella, Mitella, Tolmiaea, Tellima are all perennial plants, very similar to each other, all originating from North America, and all endowed with excellent hardiness. The Heucheras, in particular, thrive in a moist, rich in humus soil in shade or partial shade. They don't tolerate dry and poor soils very well, even though they can withstand temporary summer drought. Indispensable in the borders of woodlands where their often evergreen foliage in winter and their small size allow them to occupy the foreground.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
