This Verbascum is a recent horticultural creation which will enchant you all summer long with its long flowering, pastel coloured stems in various shades and nuances of pink, apricot, peach, and purple. An aurora borealis in your flower beds! Magnificent and charming!
Â
Verbascum, also known as Mullein, is native to Europe, North Africa, and Central and Western Asia and belongs to the scrophulariaceae family. Verbascum Southern Charm is an easy-to-grow, robust perennial herbaceous plan which forms a spreading rosette of large semi-evergreen leaves. Floral spikes of 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32in) emerge from June to August, bearing 2 to 3 cm (1in), cup-shaped flowers with 5 petals, in a range of old pink, apricot, fawn, adorned with plume-like, purple stamens. A long and charming, abundant flowering with variable colours, from which you can create fairy-like summer bouquets! This mullein plant spreads over 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in), giving volume and enchanting colours to your summer flower beds!
Â
This robust, drought-tolerant mullein is happy in light shade and ordinary or poor, but will be more floriferous in fairly rich, chalky, well-drained soil. Southern Charm will bring exquisite pastel shades to your flower beds. With its volume and height, it will find a place in the background of a flower bed or in a group. It will fit perfectly in a wild garden with its rustic aspect, but also in a romantic garden with its pastel colours. It can be planted in a pot on the terrace to fully enjoy its splendid flowers. Its tall floral spikes will make wonderful summer bouquets. It will be the ideal companion in mixed borders of perennials with shrub or climbing roses, or grasses, and you can also combine it with other species of Mulleins. Play with contrasting colours to enhance its charming palette, like a watercolour painting!

Botanical data
Southern Charm Hybrid Mullein is a perennial plant that is very easy to grow and extremely accommodating that can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F)! It can thrive in partial shade, poor soil and limestone, and tolerates drought very well. However, it prefers loose and fairly rich soil, as well as a sunny and open position, to provide abundant flowering. The most important thing is to ensure excellent drainage when planting, as Verbascums do not tolerate winter moisture. It is best planted in October, but can also be planted in spring. Divide the clumps in autumn or spring. This perennial also naturally self-seeds.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
