Description

Erysimum Zwerg Jaune is a new generation perennial Wallflower, selected for its earliness, floribundity, hardiness and very compact habit, in a dense cushion.  It is a small plant with very fine evergreen foliage, which produces small bright yellow flowers for weeks, from spring to the middle of summer. Ideal in rockeries, gravel beds, above walls, it is also an excellent variety for ornamental patios and sunny balconies.

Erysimum Zwerg Jaune is a horticultural hybrid resulting from the cross-breeding between several species of Erysimum and Cheiranthus, plants that are similar to wallflowers that originate from limestone and dry areas of southern Europe, central Asia and North America. All these plants belong to the Brassicaceae or Cruciferae family. This Zwerg Jaune variety is a hardy perennial, but its lifespan is limited: it is often considered a biennial that flowers in the second year before disappearing. It is distinguished by its compact and bushy habit, not exceeding 20 cm (8in) in height and 35-40 cm (14-16in) in spread, as well as by its long flowering period from April-May to June-July.
The particularly generous flowering consists of clusters of small bright yellow flowers. The flowers are small, 1.5 cm (1in) but gathered in clusters and open successively. There is sometimes a small summer comeback if this plant is pruned. Its dark green foliage, evergreen in winter, consists of very fine sword-shaped leaves. It is also decorative due to the contrast it creates with the flowers.  This plant, in very well-drained soil, will survive our normal winters, but its foliage can be slightly damaged by very heavy frosts.

Erysimum Zwerg Jaune is a perfect plant for sunny, slightly dry and rocky areas of the garden, but also on the patio, or in a planter placed against a sun-drenched wall. It can be associated with small alpine phlox, erodiums and other low-growing perennial plants such as creeping gypsophila, cerastiums, diascias, stachys, catmints, lobelias and other shrubby salvias. In short, we love it...

Planting and care

Plant Erysimum Zwerg Jaune in a very sunny position in slightly acidic, neutral to limestone, even stony and rocky soil, well-drained. In summer, make sure the soil does not dry out too much. Prune the stems after flowering. Erysimum is hardy in well-drained soil, but the evergreen foliage weakens the plant in winter. This plant is very easily cultivated in a pot, in good horticultural soil, with regular watering and fertilizer for flowering plants.
