The Italian A45 grafting tool is a precision tool delivered with a set of 4 blades. It allows for V, omega, T, and English grafting! The blades are interchangeable in a few seconds by removing two screws on the head of the tool. This versatile tool is suitable for grafting fruit trees and vines, kiwis, flowering bushes... Maximum grafting capacity : 1cm (0.3in).
Grafting is an ancient technique that allows for the multiplication of a selected variety for its qualities. It consists of implanting a "scion" - a fragment taken from the interesting plant - into the tissues of a plant called the "rootstock". The objective is for the graft, integrated with the rootstock, to develop thanks to the rooted rootstock that nourishes it. The rootstock provides adaptation to the soil and climate, resistance to certain soil pathogens, hardiness, and vigour. The grafted scion, on the other hand, provides the desired flowers or fruits, as well as foliage or branching.
The four types of grafting:
V Grafting: also known as triangle or inlay grafting. A branch or scion is brought into contact with the rootstock, both being notched in a V shape. It is done before flowering. It is frequently used for stone fruit trees (apricots, cherries, plums...), and for certain flowering bushes such as Hibiscus.
Omega Grafting: it gets its name from the contour of the cut made on the rootstock and the graft. It resembles the uppercase letter Omega turned upside down. This technique aims to interlock a scion and a rootstock of the same diameter, cut in the shape of puzzle pieces, to ensure the solidity of the assembly. It is commonly used for vines.
T Grafting, also called budding grafting : particularly recommended for stone fruits. A well-developed bud surrounded by a border of bark in the shape of a shield (the scion) is inserted into a T-shaped incision made in the bark of the rootstock.
Simple English grafting: the scion and rootstock of the same diameter (8 mm branches) are both cut diagonally, so that the incision measures 2 to 3 times the diameter of the graft. The graft will be cut just behind a bud, leaving enough space to make the ligature. The bud will be positioned just above the graft point. It will act as a sap puller.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
