Acquired last spring, it bloomed beautifully and grew well throughout the summer. A small salmon-pink pendulous rose with a gentle fragrance, you are never disappointed with this rose bush.

Description

Rosa 'Compassion' is one of the most popular repeat-flowering roses. The delicious scent of the roses adds to the beauty of its colours. The flowers display salmon and apricot hues, changing tone throughout summer.

This rose is particularly resistant to diseases. It obtained the famous German ADR label in 1976, attesting to its reliability in this field.

The qualities of this variety are indisputable: the rose is beautiful, large, and fragrant; the bush is healthy; it is a repeat-flowering variety; and its habit is balanced. It is perfect for adorning a wall or a pergola.

The ADR label is only granted to varieties that have passed the strictest controls in the world. The plants are tested simultaneously at 10 different locations, in various soil and climate conditions for several years. The tests focus on hardiness, perennial character, and flowering without the use of any pesticide.

Harkness, 1972.

Planting and care

It prefers sunny locations. It tolerates excessive limestone, but does not like it. It will adapt to any garden if the soil is well-worked and rich enough. To plant your rose, prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment (dried blood or dehydrated horn) at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this does not affect their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose and are a natural phenomenon.

Care

Pruning instructions Spring pruning involves removing a portion of the old branches at the base each year, thus maintaining a framework while rejuvenating the rose. Trim the branches from the current year to 3 or 4 buds. To achieve abundant flowering in your roses, regularly bend and tie the branches that can grow up to 1m (3ft) per week in summer. Each bend leads to lateral growth that ends in a bouquet of flowers. Remove faded flowers to encourage new buds to form
